To some, Mother Jones was the “Miner’s Angel” and to others, she was the “most dangerous woman in the world”. This shows how she was more than just a woman who was involved in politics. Mother Jones made a big difference. Mother Jones was a powerful, involved, and fearless woman, who became well known for her union organizing and activism in politics.

Next, the “Mother” in Mother Jones isn’t self proclaimed, she earned it. In June of 1879, after she focussed on a railway convention, she started to be called “Mother Jones” because of she was nurturing and helpful to the workers.  From then on, Mary G. Harris Jones was referred to as “Mother Jones”. This proves that she didn’t just think she was mothery, but others understood her as a mother of all.

Most importantly, Mother Jones was an effective union recruiter for the United Miners of America. She included African American miners as well as women and children in strikes. Mother Jones inspired so many people that in the summer of 1879, 9,000 mine workers had a nationwide strike. Tens of thousands miners went to Pittsburgh to assist them, with Jones. Finally, as Mother Jones was known as “Miner’s Angel” and a “mother” to some, to others, she was the “most dangerous woman in the world”. Over the years of union politics, she had been in jail many times and banned from more places than any other union organizer of that time. In the quote “If you are too cowardly to fight, I will fight.” and ”If they want to hang me, let them. And on the scaffold I will shout ‘Freedom for the working class’!” Her words show how she was a fearless woman who was passionate about what she believed in.

In conclusion, Mother Jones was a powerful, involved, and fearless woman, who became well known for her union organizing and activism in politics. The first point is that the “Mother” in Mother Jones isn’t self proclaimed, she earned it. The second point is that Mother Jones was a unique and effective union recruiter for the United Miners of America.
