Tesla Hickey

2017 Mountain SOL Summer Intern

My name is Tesla Hickey, and I became passionate about our outdoors in middle school. I am currently a Junior attending Fairmont State University, majoring in Art Education with a minor in Outdoor and Leadership Skills. When I am not working on schoolwork, I love to sit outside on a hammock and read or go outside and draw. Along with other girls in my Girl Scout Troop #4527, I re-opened the Cheat Lake nature trail by re-blazing the original trail and sprucing up the area. I earned the Bronze Award in 2008 for our work in the trail project. In 2009, I joined the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for Friends of Deckers Creek (FODC). I worked with YAB until 2015 when I graduated high school. During that time I was the treasurer for 3 years and the president for 2. I worked on a lot of outdoor and public projects during my time and received two “Yabber of the Year” awards. For my volunteer hours with YAB and other organizations, I received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for 4 consecutive years. I worked with Mountain SOL the summer of 2015 designing and helping campers create the Monarch butterfly mural on the garden fence. I am so excited to be involved with the Mountain SOL, and I am excited for all the summer memories we are going to make together!
